I have a daughter that sings to accompaniment tapes and I am wanting to record her singing with the tape onto a cassette. Can I do this with a 4xtrack tape recorder, headphone, and mic? Is there something else i would need? How would I record the accompaniment tape into the recorder? I do have a double cassette deck on a stereo system. I am completely new to this and have no experience.

The way I understand your question, you need two cassette decks, a small mixer and a mic. Play back the music bed into two channels of the mixer with you daughter singing along thru the mic in a third channel with the second cassette deck connected to the main left/right output recording the mix.
A small Behringer mixer can be had for about $100 or so and a Shure SM-58 for about $130. I assume you have at least one cassette deck.
