my band is going to start recording at my house soon and we need to buy a mixer for recording. is it possible to use a powered mixer (like a pa mixer)
like this for example

or does it have to be an unpowered mixer?

ill be running through what ever mixer we get into my computers sound card into adobe audition and mastering it with waves gold bundle and a bunch of other effects

You spent ~$1K on Waves Gold Bundle and you don't know if you can use a pa mixer to record through? Me thinks you should have figured out how to get sound INTO your PC before blowing a grand on plug-ins. That grand could have been spent on a nice front end (mics/pre-amps/audio interface for your PC). Oh well, it's not my money!

no i got a copy of it from my uncle, i would never pay 1000 dollars for effects that can only be used in recording, im only 15 and dont have a job which is why we are on such a tight budget

but anyways can i use that or do i have to buy a pa mixer for live stuff and a regular unpowered mixer for recording? and i dont want to spend like 500 more for a power amp which is the reason why i want to get a cheap pa.

Yeah, you can do that. Just make sure you run line level signals to the soundcard and not the speaker connections!
