All I have is a PC with factory sound card, and two cheap 1/8" microphones =). The sound card has 1 mic-in and 1 line-in, and I have a splitter, but I can't get any combination that allows me two record with both mikes (a friend and I want to record). Do I need a new sound card, splitter, some accessory, etc?

Thanks for your help.

What I can quickly think about:
1. Get one stereo mic
2. Get a mixer

check the specs of your soundcard, as alot of the factory sound cards (maybe all) have mono mic inputs....so youll need an adapter that goes from 2 - 1/8" mono plugs to 1 - 1/8" mono plug....once recorded, you wont have individual control over the 2 levels, so get it right the first time....

another option is using some sort of preamp or cheap mixer that has a stereo out and go into the line in of the soundcard so you can record stereo on 2 separate tracks....

something like this will let you go into the line in with a stereo signal
