...
hi all,,,

just a 'simple' query,

i have a pc setup, using a terratec ews88mt, and a behringer desk,

generally i have the terratec input volumes at max, and the use the desk volume controls to get an appropriate volume.

is this a good idea,,,,or should i be lowering the input volumes in my terratec software.

maybe this is a silly question,,,and it's the same thing either way,,,but i thought i'd ask!

thank you all in advance,

Steen.

You should have the software set to "0"

You need to send a test signal through the board to calibrate the inputs.

Take a test signal (a sine wave from a keyboard will be fine) plug it into a channel of you board. Set the channel fader and the master fader at "0". (look at the scale next to the faders, that isn't always all the way up) set the input trim on the channel until the mixers output meter reads "0" (again, not all the way up)

Now, run the output of the mixer into your interface.

Set the hardware input controls (knobs) on your interface so that the meter in your software reads -18.

Now your rig is calibrated. As long as you are feeding it a good signal from the board (hovering around 0db) your level will be fine.
