Recording Volume Problems

im having serious problems with recording volume in Cool Edit Pro v2. I'm using an M Quattro Audio USB Interface. when i record any speech through the mic, it plays at an extremely low volume. i find myself having to save files, crank the decibels, then resave it. i need to record the narration for a 110 slide powerpoint and i cant do this for all slides!! someone please help me adjust my recording volume so i can finish the project with my sanity.

You need a preamp, here are some decent tube pre's.

What type of Mic are you using?

Is your Windows Mixer Record level turned up?

I'd guess you need a preamp or phantom power...
