Hi, I'm just a beginner when it comes to recording. I was wondering what a preamp was. I keep on hearing and reading about it but I don't understand it. I have a tascam portastudio 488 and shure sm58 microphone. Do I need a preamp? The vocals sound fine to me...Also I heard somewhere the the shure sm58 already has a built in pop shield. Do I need to buy a seperate one? Thanks a lot.
