I've been looking for something else for vocals. I really like the simplicity of the "mic mechanic". I found out that it doesn't have phantom power, or it has 24 volts instead of 48. Is this even designed for a condenser mic and recording? Is this mainly a device for live performance with a dynamic mic? All the videos i have seen were about live performance. My idea was to use it with a sm57 for vocals. Have you recorded with it yet? Do you think this would work well (sm57 and mic mechanic combo)?

mostly compression. The examples on youtube of clearing up vocals sounded impressive. I don't record with a computer. I do have a microverb III that i use to add reverb at mixdown.

Yes, the TCs are really designed for live use, most people when recording prefer to record a dry signal so that it can be FXed during mixing. If you are not using a computer, what are you recording with?

tascam dp01. I'm a dinosaur. I have experimented with recording with a tiny bit of echo, and adding the room reverb at mixdown. I'm having trouble with vox being either squashed or very jumpy. I was using a studio projects b1 condenser mic into an Art tubepac compressor/preamp. Maybe i need to work on technique, or different mic. thnx for info

Yes. I use one to record, but keep the pedal in the bypass position. In that position the tone button is still in effect and the preamp is quite good on the device. If it's "on" you can't completely turn down the effects and you probably don't want to record them or record anything with the pitch correction.
I use it live too, but live I use a little slapback and pitch correction. Live I have to use 20db pad on the output to avoid overloading the PA preamp.
My only condenser mic is plenty happy with phantom power supplied, but I've heard others have issues.

What mic do you use to record with the mic mechanic? The "tone" button seems to really clear it up, and that's what i'm interested in. So you can use a condenser with this? I've heard that since it only has 24v power, that regular condensers hum when plugged into it. I may try it with an sm57 since you tried it, or i may try another condenser with my art tubepac. Maybe that b1 wasn't right for my voice, or maybe i need another preamp.

im using one of the cheap CAD condensers and I think the will do 24v. The beta 58s sounds good with it to.
