Howdy folks, I've been interested in recording on my PC for quite a while and will finally be endowed with the funds to secure my hardware & software with very soon.
I've looked at a few different software packages and a few different sound cards and I'm interested to hear what the seasoned recorders have to say.
In case my system specs are relevant, I'll get them out of the way first: P3/866, 0.5G SDRAM, 40G HD.
As far as hardware goes, I'm divided between the Omni Delta 66 package and the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum. I'll be focusing on guitar and bass and probably just running an amp modeler through SPDIF, and thus not working with microphones (this I say heading into it... I'm sure my thoughts will change once I'm engaged.)
Speaking of amp modelers, I know Line 6 Pods are great, but I'd also like to hear what anyone has to say about the Johnson J-Station.
As far as software goes, I'm entertaining the possibility of purchasing either eMagic Platinum or Cubase. I know there's many more...
I appreciate any feedback I receive from anyone regarding these momentous first steps in my musical recording endeavors. Thank you in advance.
