hi, i am total newbie..bought a va mp today and liked it...i tried to record using cakewalk,,,,i was unable to play anything back...i don't know if it recorded or not...i played back some tracks that were already on my hard drive...can someone either tell me step by step how to go about this? i'm sure that i have the cable hooked up right..i don't know what the problem is..or maybe point me to a site that has some tutorials?++

thanx

Your Cakewalk manual should cover this.:D

I use a J-Station with the output connected to my mixer input. Mixer output to soundcard line input. You might have to go stereo RCA to 1/8" if you have a Soundblaster or the like.

Again, there is an illustration of this in the Cakewalk manual...

Make sure you have the Windows mixer set properly, too. This is covered at the Cakewalk website.

midi cable

i am using a midi cable that connects to the game port on the soundblaster live value...i really don't know what i'm doing..i just asked the guy at the music store to give me the cable that i needed....is this the right cable? it has only the game port connecter and the line in and out for the v amp...

 Midi is only recordable from a midi instrument, such as a keyboard or a drum machine.Even then it is not audio just a series of commands that can only be played back on another midi instrument.
Your guitar is not a midi instrument, you must use the audio outs.

I am not familiar with the v-amp ,but I'll bet the midi in is for downloading patches and limited external control. The out for uploading and saving patches.

READ YOUR MANUAL there's probably all kinds of stuff you're missing out on.

your right acid rock,,, the midi cord is for downloading v amp software....thanx

Don't throw out that midi cord!

The midi applications are really useful for adjusting the presets and designing your own sounds on the vamp, you need the Soundiver software to do that.

goto: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/V-AMP/ to link to downloads and other good Vamp info.

Basically run a cord from the line out on Vamp into your soundcard. It's probably a Creative Soundblaster soundcard and you need either a 1/4" (standard instrument cable size) to 1/8" cable or an adapter on your guitar cord to make the link between vamp and pc. You can get 1/4" to 1/8" adapters at Radio Shack for about a buck.
