recording using a laptop and m-audios quattro

i have a pentium III 600 mhtz and m-audios quattro. I would like to record using cool edit pro 2.0 but i cant figure out how to set it up. If anyone uses a laptop to record music i would appriciate it if they could explain how you setup the computer for multi-track recording. I want to record musicans simaltanously and to get a pretty good sound.
