Can somone please tell me how to record two guitars at once and have them recorded to their own separate track (so that's two tracks) in Cool Edit Pro???

Someone else told me that I should use a "Y cable with 2 female 1/4" ends and one male stereo 1/8" end" to hook the two guitars up to the computer. I'm using a Soundblaster Live! card by the way.

So yeah once everything is plugged in and ready to go, how do I configure Cool Edit Pro so that it will record each guitar separately onto its own respective track???

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Just plug each guitar into each 1/4 and when you record to a stereo file the one guitar will automatically recorded on a different channel. But you might need to boost the guitars because you'll need to hook the 1/8 to your line in, not mic in. Becase mic in is in mono.

Cool thanks for that.
Too easy.

you don't need to record them to a stereo file.. all you have to do is set say.. track 1 to record from the left channel and track 2 from the right channel.. then you get 2 mono tracks.

using a y-splitter is one option, another is if you have a multitracker or mixing board of any kind, simply pan one channel dead left and the other dead right, run a line out to the PC line in, and do the above steps in cool edit.. presto..

I was using a 4track as a mixer with a y cable from the stereo outs to the line in and that worked pretty well.
