i recently upgraded to XP...i dunno if that has anything to do with this problem, but i have 2sm57's hooked up to my behringer mixer which hooks up to my soundcard input. i used to be able to pan one mic left and the other right (on my mixer) and then on n-track select "2 mono tracks, 1 left 1 right" and i would be able to record 2 tracks simultaneously. all of a sudden n-track sees everything mono, even when something is panned left or right. so if i tap on the mic panned left (on the mixer), i can hear it on the left on my computer speakers, but n-tracks monitoring VU meters BOTH rise up together, not just the left. this means 2 track recording is shot and doesnt work at all. any ideas on how to fix this? thanks a lot, -nate

Hmmm....have you double checked everything? It sounds like you might be missing something totally obvious...

You have checked the "stereo->2 mono" switch in the recording VU meter? You made sure that you're actually panning on your mixer? You're plugged into the line input and not the mic input? You're using the same Y cable as before?

yep, everything is exactly the same as you said, and, as far as i know, the same as it was setup when it worked previously before the XP install....i would like to avoid uninstalling Xp...

Did you ever get it working? What soundcard are you using?

nope still no luck, im using an esoniq pci....i remember n-track's site describing it as a good-quality but still not expensive card. maybe i should re-install n-track?

Hmm...my gut tells me that this is not an n-Track specific problem because you seem to know how to set n-Track up.

Have you taken a look at the your soundcard's recording mixer?

(yeah the AudioPCI is a good card to start with, I had one myself!)

yes, i think i'll reinstall it tomorrow, thanks for the help, ill keep you posted

alright, i re-installed n-track in xp and still no luck.....on my mixer i have 1 mic panned left and one right, and through the headphones coming out of my comp everything is fine, when i tap on the left mic it comes from the left speaker on the headphones. but while monitoring the monitor VU meters BOTH rise up when i tap on one of the mics.....meaning i'll never be able to get the stereo -> 2 mono tracks to work. bummerrrrrrrrr any idea whats going on? is it n-tracks fault or xp's? should i downgrade to win98? any xp compatable drivers i should be looking for...etc?

Well it could be your soundcard...I dunno. It's not something that you would reinstall your OS over though.

Very strange... I was just looking at n-Track for some kind of option or something you might be missing...I dunno.

When you uninstall n-Track, make sure you delete the n-Track folder as well before reinstalling...that can help.

yeah right now its not lookin too good....and yes i did delete the entire folder, i also tried recording in stereo with the "sound recorder" or whatever freebie app that comes with windows...and no luck there. so right now its looking like a hardware problem...which is odd cause while listening with headphones the sounds are stereo....oh man. are there any comparable audio programs to n-track that are setup similarly and easy to use? to test those out as well? maybe the downgrade to win98 is worth it....it wouldnt delete the hard drive or anything, in the "uninstall programs" list, xp is listed. but im definately thinking this is a driver problem
