Howyadoin,

Has anyone tried tracking to a RAM drive instead of the usual dedicated hard drive? If so, how were the results? Any recommendations for which software to use to create the RAM drive?

Thanks!

on some other time, there was a big advantage on putting the application, not the data, in a ram disk. I used to did that with Microsoft Excel and the recalculations were much faster. You should try it.
I did it on a mac, which has a built in ram drive application.

I can't think of one benefit of tracking to a RAM disk unless your hard drive is limiting the number of tracks you can work with. If this is the case, then you're working with so many tracks that a RAM drive isn't going to solve any problems :)

Most hard disks can keep up just fine, and writing direct to disk is considerably more safe.

I can see using a large RAM disk (maybe 600+) for editing, but only if the drive access is really having an impact on your edits, in which case you're probably working with > 600MB of data so what's the point.
