i'm trying to record from my md deck into my computer so ultimately i can burn the music onto my cd's.
i put a y-cable from the line out of my md deck to the line-in on my soundcard, but when i record i can hear the music coming out of my computer speakers but nothing gets recorded. i've tried with the windows sound recorder and the wave flow sound editor and still cannot record.
but when i input through the mic in, it does record but all distorted.
can anyone please help????

check the windows volume control again, go to the options menu, go to properties.
You should get another window with several options: select "Show recording controls" as opposed to playback (or whatever). hit ok, the volume controls will change. Now, make sure that the line input is selected, it often isn't by default. You might also want to deselect the mic input, you may find you get a less noisy recording, depending on the sound card.

Good Luck!

P.S. Make sure you select Advanced Controls as well!!
