What would be the best way to position 3 vocalists that would be singing into seperate mics in the same room (for recording to 3 individual tracks)?

For example, should they all be in a line? Facing each other? Facing away from each other?

M/S would be perfect for this. Two singers, one on each side of a figure 8 mic, and a cardioid (or hypercardioid) aimed in the middle, toward the third singer.

How about the three vocalists forming a triangle amongst each other?

I say if you want to use 3 mics then do it as far away from the other mic as possible so theres no sound leakage from the other singers that way you can have a perfect 3 seperate tracks. You dont even have to do the singers all together live.

My input peace.

It depends on the situation and the type of music.

If you're concerned with bleed, you need a big room; there's no way to eliminate the bleed completely. This is usually not a problem unless you have to retrack one of the singers. The bleed from his original track might be heard in the other two tracks.

I ended up keeping two of the singers in the same room on SM58's, spaced about 12 feet apart. The 3rd singer I put at the top of a stairwell on an AKG c3000. Seems to have worked ok. Thanks for the suggestions.
