Hey, I have a VF-16 and I record some with my band. Nothing fancy, just for fun. The bass player runs his bass directly into the VF-16, w/ out a DI box or anything. I would mic his amp but its a piece of junk and i really don't have many mics. Can this mess up the VF-16?? I know the right way is to use a DI box, but I don't have the money right now, so I'm working with what i have... I'd appreciate any advice you guys have....

peace,
stephen

I don't think it will hurt your VF16 at all, but their might be an impedance mismatch and the tone will suffer.

If you can save up for a Behringer DI 100, it's probably the least expensive active direct box around. $35. Me'Shell NdegeCello used one on her last album, if that means anything.

Aguilar, Countryman, Summit, Avalon, and BSS make some good ones but they are more expensive than the Behringer.

Make sure you compress the bass. It will hold it up in the track.

cheers
john
