Newbie question about setting up my recording studio. See the picture. Is this a proper setup? ['naar eindversterker' means 'to amplifier']

What I want to do is using instrument from the software synthesizer in Cubase, but i also want to use the instruments and effects from my Korg TR synthesizer (where Cubase controls the synth)

The thing is, my Korg synth is in this setup used for midi input to the cubase sequencer as wel as 'audio' output towards a mixer channel. Does this interfere with each other? I presume, when I play the synth, midi data is sent to Cubase (and I hear in my end amplifier the generated sound from Cubase) but at the very same time, my synth is sending audio data directly to the mixer, so i might hear mixed up sounds..

Or is it just a matter of switching off the synth channel on the mixer when using the synth for midi input, and switching off the midi connection from synth to PC when using the synth as midi instrument?

any suggestions?

Yes...there's too many variables, the best thing is to find what works for you. You obviously can't be playing your synth at the same time your midi is coming from your computer and playing it(or at least I don't think you would want to).

If you want to have your midi from computer playing your korg then do that and record the audio out from it. I think it's really that simple.

If you want to record audio out from your korg at the same time you record midi to computer, you can do that.

Note: for best audio quality, you need an audio interface -if you are using the built-in soundcard in your computer, it will not give you the best A-D/D-A conversion. Get something like the Scarlett 2i4 which has MIDI and audio inputs.

I am once again be boring and predictable and recommend the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 as the interface. Here are the reasons..
Latency: Using the computer's sound card will almost certainly introduce too much. The F'rites are excellent interfaces but not know AFAIK for low latency?
Then, OP has a mixer. The KA6 has two additional line inputs, handy?

Lastly the AI comes with a light version of Cubase. If OP already has the DAW a second version on another machine is always useful.

Dave.
