I am new to this forum. I have been asked by my church to set up a digital recording system for sermons. I like the Marantz PDM570 because it will automatically create new files every minute (or any other time increment) on the fly. So when we make our CD's the listener can easily find a favorite point in the sermon by going to a track.

I really like the Alesis Masterlink, but it does not have the capability to automatically start a new track every minute.

If we don't buy the Marantz PDM570, we may have to find a quick way to divide the sermon file into consecutive 1 minute tracks by using PC software.

Please give me any comments you may have!

This would a really, really easy thing to do on a computer. It won't take much time at all. All you have to do is get the big file into the computer, get some free wave editor like Audicity, and cut the file up into 1 minute segments. Then export each file and burn them to a cd. Half an hour work, tops.

Faster method

I was looking for a program that would break the file up automatically in a matter of seconds.

You'll wanna put a lot of compression on it. Well, if you're Pentecostal you will, and if the preacher's not good at keeping the mic in place.

Is N5KYF your tail number?

We have a Shure analog limiter that we use now. If I get the Alesis, I may have it compress the audio levels as well.

N5KYF is my ham radio call sign.

Unless you can guarantee that every sermon is going to be the exact same length in actual performance - which I doubt - why would you want to cut your recordings into equal-time segements?

Just dump your recordings to the CD Architect software by Sony. From there you can just point and click to mark your CD track boundaries at the beginning of each sermon and burn away. It would probably take less time to do the marking than it would to actually burn the CD.

In our church, sermons can be an hour, and if you've got the CD in your car it's nice to be able to jump to the place where you left off.

And if you're Southern Baptist, a limiter will be in order ;).

also, keep in mind that the track limit for a Red Book audio CD is 99 tracks. In your case, 99 minutes. If you're just doing the sermon, that might be okay, but if you're doing the entire service you might cut it close.
