Hi All,
Perhaps I should be posting this in 'Keyboards', 'Drums' or a 'Software" thread but it is a recording technique I suppose...

How do bands like The Postal Service, NIN, Depeche Mode, get their primarily non- acoustic drum sounds?

What sequencing/drum software do they use?

For example does anyone know how the Postal Service's single "Such Great Heights" did the drums on that song?

Thanks

Typically using samplers or drum machines. Often older drum machines like the Roland 808, 909, 606 or Oberheim DMX, DX, or Sequential Circuits TOM or Drumtraks, or any of the dozens upon dozens of drum machines out there.

Heck, they may use synthesis to make their own drum sounds. It's not that hard and fun to do. Load some noises into a sampler and layer them... and away you go.

I imagine all types.

Personally I use Cubase SL, Native Instruments Battery 2, Intakt, and Kontakt 2 for the majority of my percussion sounds. If you are using samples (which almost everyone does nowadays doing that type of music) the most important thing in the universe isn't your software, it's your SAMPLES. Having a huge sample library is the single most important thing you can possibly have.

Thanks guys!!!
Especially you clone boy.... I'm checkin out all the hardware and software you mentioned
