when i export my final recording to burn to cd which is the best format to use
so that it can be read in all standard home cd players. With the program that im using i have the options of exporting the recording as wave, MP3, Real Media, all windows media file. can any one help? thankyou.

16-bit, 44.1khz stereo wav file. Nothing more, nothing less...

Well your CD burner is going to do that regardless...

If its for audio, it's always going to be converted to CDA format.

The best thing you can do is to record using the highest definition possible. WAV, for example, is a good format.

All MP3 does is "shave" off your high freqs to allow better compression. Not a very good way to go if you want clear and clean audio.

Wav takes up a lot of space though. Also Sound forge has a format .pca, for Perfect Clarity Audio. I have yet to try that

True, but the CD burner will convert the wav to cda.

so you'll still loose some of that quality, but it'll be the best it can be.

This is true of many industry recordings as well.

MP3 does a lot more than just shave off the high frequencies

And you are not losing anything going from WAV to a CD format...it's still lossless format. so in answer to his question, gordone was right.... 16 bit 44.1Khz WAV file.

44.1k 16 bit wav. period! If you are running out of hard drive space, erase it after you burn it to disc. you can always load the song back up. Anything that is mastered for cd is always 44.1k 16 bit. always.
