Hello, New to desktop recording. I'm using the Reaper software just using my backing tracks and recording. I recorded 3 songs with no problem. Today, different story. I hear a echo sound when i record and the backing track clips. It seems when i hit my mouse the levels go high, my speaker on the computer is on at the same time that I"m recording and I dont know what to do. I have windows 7 with realtek High def audio and speaker/hp realtek def. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think i might be to old for this, but love playing my sax. thank you

Thank you for your response, but i did turn off the speakers before i wrote. I have tried every combination ,to no avail. May be I need to reach Reaper. Unless you have a solution. thanks again.

Have a poke around the Audio set up in Windows 7. I have a hunch that instead of line or mic in, you're recording "Wave Out" (or what ever Win7 calls it) and you have both your playback and inputs faded up on the audio channel mixer. Windows 7 (and Vista before it) have a nasty habit of resetting things when other audio needs to use the card.

In the longer term, when you have a bit of spare cash, buy yourself an external USB interface. It'll hugely improve the quality of your recordings and rescue you from the tyranny of %&$ Windows sound rubbish.

+1 check your settings for your soundcard.
+1 get something more pro-ish soundcard wise.

You might also try a different recording app, to see if it's something in reaper that might be messed up setting wise. Like audacity. Or a different OS like linux to see if it's just windows being windows. Audacity will run in either OS. But if it used to work and now it doesn't, something changed and that's probably software, not hardware. i.e. Settings or Configuration.

Bob, Thank you for your info. Being a old newbie I will try your info. If I'm not mistaken, I have a Blue Icicle with my Shure57 beta mike. Is the Blue Icicle the usb intrface your talking about? If not, do you have a recommendation. Thanks

Bob, Thank You. When I open Reaper, on the upper right side it states, 44.1 khz 2/2ch- 0.0/747ms wave out. It this the correct setting??Thank You for your help
