I will mix with mackie board. Should I record with souncard/software? or alesis hd24? would i need outboard gear if i go soundcard/software route?

Working in the PC will give you more flexibility than almost anything else.
That said get a multi track tape recorder too.

You could do it cheaper on your computer, if you already have a decent computer. An Maudio Delta 1010 interface is $200 + whatever software you choose.
I record on my computer, but I also use my "old school" 8 track blackface ADAT. It really is nice to have both options.
