Has anyone ever tried recording outdoors ? Any famous recordings done outdoors ? What's the good/bad sides ?

I live "nearly" in the countryside, so I have to try it once...

Well, as long as the wind isn't blowing and it isn't too humid, there shouldn't be a problem. I think I'd want at least one wall - like maybe a front porch.

I remember hearing a story that Bad Company's singer sang outside for the first album (or at least parts of it)...

Also, I know that Stone Temple Pilots recorded some of their tracks for "Tiny Music..." outside (from a documentary on the album). Actually, they set up drums and everything in all sorts of different rooms in a house to record that CD.

Not to mention all the live CD's and DVD's of tons of bands...

Some of the Beatles' (outdoor, of course) rooftop performance was used on the Let It Be album!

someone in this forum said most artists make overdubs of live tracks in the studio (but yes, i think most of the tracks are live)

I can't remember which one, but one of the convo reverbs has a IR from woods of Germany. I thought that was pretty cool, I've always loved the way sound travels in dense woods.

well, have you heard any CDs that you like that were recorded live at concerts?? it's the same idea....minus the audience. it all depends on the engineer really. I've heard concerts recorded live that sound like shit and other ones that sound pretty darn good, that you don't even know it's live until the audience chimes in.

Many of the drum tracks on Muse's "Absolution" were recorded in an empty outdoor swimming pool. There are some clips of them recording in all different places in and around a house in the English countryside on their web site www.muse.mu
