I have a three piece band that i need to record for cheap. What is a good, very cheap mic that i can stick in the middle of the room to record into a computer with? The cheap kareoke mic im using now makes my guitar tone sound paper thin.

Well, I suppose what you're looking for is a Shure SM57 or 58 of sorts, in a dynamic anyways, though I'm sure there are cheaper mics that can produce similar results.

I'll tell you now though, it won't sound wonderful, unless you can manage to get the live levels perfect. (Gotta think in the past to do it that way)

Which makes me wonder... what are you currently singing vocals through (unless you don't have any) and how would you propose they get picked up?

I plan on just doing the vocals afterwards. I realize its not going to sound like dark side of the moon here, but if i can pick up our live sound and throw some vocals on top, it will be enough for a demo.

If there are no vocals or you are going to add them later I'd try using a couple of PZM Mics. Just the thing to mic a room. Placement is not critical to getting a good sound.
