you can't ask whats the "best". everybody here is going to tell you something different. if you dont want to be abused by everyone here, you might want to lock the thread. the others dont like threads about "the best"

heres some good ones though; ProTools, Sonar, Cubase are like the top here.

Yer sorry thats too vague. Im just begging out and i want to record the drums 1st through a mixer with a metranome. Then Guitar and then Vocals (through the mixer again).
Can anyone reccommend a software that allows me to multitrack pretty easily (simple software to use) without loosing quality.
Thanks

All DAW software will allow you to do that. Quality is more of a soundcard/signal path thing than a software thing. If you are going to be using a mixer, you will need one with direct outs so you can record mutiple tracks at once (or a soundcard with enough mic pres to do the job)

Some other ones to look at: Traktion (good for beginners), Ntrack

Yer it has direct outputs aswell as the XLR outputs etc.. It also says the outputs are ideal for DAT recorders so i persume that can be used for harddrives aswell. Thanks

With that mixer, you do not actually have any direct outs but can use the insert points to send to a sound card plus the send for a total of 5 mono channels (which will be prefader) and the 2 main out which will be post everything.

That mixer is not really designed for a multitrack interface though, its a mix to stereo mixer so you should consider something like a firepod where it is made for recording mutiple tracks at once (and it comes with software)
