I have recorded about 75 of my cassettet tapes to CD. Everything has gone very well, no problems on anything.
The night before last, I recorded a tape on my hard drive. I went and listened to it before I burn it. It skipped all over the place. I deleted it, scaned disc, defraged, recorded it again. It skipped again. What causes this? How can I fix it? Thank you, Chris.

1. bad sound card
2. not enough RAM
3. slow processor
4. software problem (try a different one)

since you've already had success with recording a number of your tapes to your hard-drive, the 4 "solutions" posted above are all very unlikely to be your problem. pops&clicks are more likely caused by something interrupting, while you're recording, the stream of audio that's running from your soundcard to your hard-drive. Some common culprits are IRQ conflicts and the dreaded USB. Here are some web sites that have tips on optimizing your computer for recording:

good luck!

Must've misunderstood the post. Thought this was the first time saving to hard disk.

good-dog,

A couple of simple questions... have you installed any software or hardware recently?

Also.. do you have Virus Scanning running in the back ground?

Thanks, I never use a screen saver. I have it so my monitor goes blank. I remembered I installed a fish aquarium screen saver. I truned it off and I tried it again and it worked. Thanks for all the help.

I was using easy CD creator and switched to Nero. I just (over)burned a 83 min. CD and it worked good. I really like Nero so much better. Now all I need to do is figure it out completely. Chris.

Good to hear Chris....

Basic thinking... if something works then all of a sudden it doesn't... think about what has changed... :D
