I've posted a couple of messages looking for the manual for a 688 but what I really want is to remember how to record the MIDI sync track onto tape from a PC using Cakewalk. I used to do this years ago but I forgot how and can't seem to remember.

I have Cakewalk set to send Start/Stop/Continue/Clock and MIDI song position pointer through to Port 1. I've also connected the MIDI out from the computer to MIDI In on the deck but I can't seem to remember how to set the deck to record the signal. Once I get that far I should be okay from there.

Please help.

Hi, Night Ryder!

1. Let your sequencer send Midi clock
2. Set Sync switch to Midi (red led lights)
3. Activate Track 8 in "Record Function" line
4. Push Pause and Record
5. hear to Cue Monitor (#8)
6. Push load/Save button and set "Save"
7. in the cue monitor (#8) have to be an sin(?) signal now
8. start your sequencer, if the signal is modulated, like a analog modem or Commodore C64 tape ??? Yes? Then you can stop your sequencer, push Play and restart you sequencer to save Sync signal to tape.
9. you have to see a song bar increments ... and the led by Sync blinks...

After that rewind, Push load/Save button to set "Load" and start your Tascam for sync play with a sequencer ...

So long. I hope you understand my English ;)

In my case (Logic 5.5.1 PC & Tascam 688) it not realy works... because my sequencer jump to play modus, but not run with Tascam ... If you understand German see this thread: http://www.logicuser.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19267
