Recording Midi and Audio at Same time?

Hello all, thanks in advance for reading

I'm a newbiew on a MAC running Logic Platinum with a Delta 44 (4in-4out).

Everything is working fine, but when I record my vocals with the backing MIDI tracks, I'm also recording the MIDI as audio when I don't want to. I'm directly going in to a compact Eurorack 16-channel mixer, than out to the Delta audio card. Do I mute the channel that the MIDI is going into on the mixer somehow? Or should I get a preamp and go directly into my card for vocals and instruments?

Also, is there a good book that I can buy that talks about this kind of stuff. I've poured over manuals and shopped quite a few books, but none of them seem to discuss the nuts and bolts of desktop recording and audio the way I need. I want to learn how to get in and out of a mixer, how to figure out signal flows.

Thanks again

Gary

Yes, of course if the MIDI parts are being routed to the mixer outputs, and from there to the Delta inputs, you'll record them too.

You say that you have a 16-track Behringer mixer. Unless I'm wrong, you should have an ALT 3+4 bus on that mixer. This will enable you to direct your mic inputs to the Delta inputs without routing everything there.

Another possible cause of what you describe is that the mic is picking up the MIDI sound itself. If you're listening through the monitors while you sing, then that will certainly happen. You have little choice but to use headphones to hear the MIDI tracks while you're singing.

If your board has inserts on the back you can use those as direct sends for the individual channels.

I don't think the small Behringers have channel inserts or direct outs, hence my suggestion of the ALT 3+4 bus.
