Hope someone can help me here. In my home studio I have the Tascam 2488 SIAB for a recorder. I do not have any outboard gear to use right now. I am using 6 mics on my drums right now
as follows. sm57 /snare, sm57 / rack toms, AKD D112 / kick,
sm 57 /floor tom, AKG 3000B right and left overheads.

Can someone suggest the proper [ or at least a good starting
point for compression / limiting settings for each of these mics
when tracking. The Tascam onboard compressors make you dial in the ratio from 1-100 instead of 2:1, 4:1 etc. I'm finding it a little confusing. Also the only way I can gate these things is to bounce them to a different track one track at a time. I would be open to
any suggested gate settings.

Lastly. I do have the option to reverse phase on mics if needed.
Is this standard procedure or only done if you're having a problem.

Oh and I know, I know , I should start with a great sounding kit.
I'm working on that now.

Responses will be greatly appreciated

There's really no point in compressing while tracking on a box like that. The compressors are after the convertors so you wont have any protection from clipping. You might as well play with the settings after you record and get it right.
