Is Sound Forge a "recording program" or an "editing program" . I was hoping someone could clearify this for me. I'ts taken me several years to become somewhat proficient at Pro Audio 9 ( yea i know..kinda out dated ) but i get pretty good results with it. Now I upgrade to Sound Forge 6.0. How do you Dub with this program? In PA9 all the tracks are right there, ya arm the one you want to record, hit record, and simply play along with your preveous tracks. In SF, I can't seem to do this. A new window opens with each track your recording, and you can't hear the preveous tracks...I hope this is not a really stupid question. I have looked at the help menu, but don't see much concerning this.

Both

Personally, I LOVE soundforge. In my home studio, I use SoundForge 5, Acid 4, FruityLoops and Sonar. All these programs have very different uses, and its important that you understand them. Cakewalk SONAR , along with Digital Performer, ProTools, CoolEdit Pro, and others, is for MULITRACK recording, meaning more than stereo (2track). Soundforge is for STEREO recording and editing. Perssonally, I use SoundForge for mastering. It is the best stereo editor out there. But you can't multitrack with it. Try using Cakewalk HomeStudio 2004 for multitracking, then mixdown that and open it up as an audio file in Soundforge to master it and get it to the -10db level for the consumer audio cd.

Thanks for the input Virgo, So I should record in my PA9 then take it to SF for mastering. I'v dabbled in that a bit already, I'll keep at it. Could you elaborate on the " -10db consumer audio" Thanks

I not only use SF for mastering, but also for editing tracks that I've recorded in Cubase. In that way SF is also a perfect combination for a multitracker/sequencer. Especially because the wave-editor in Cubase SX is a bit "spartan".

Sound Forge is a GREAT editor (I use it, also). ;)

Thanks folks, I'm recording in Pro Audio 9, Editing in Sound Forge and Mastering in CD Architect and it's working out really nice.
Thanks.

Yes, those are a great choice of programs to use together.
