Hello all! I have been lurking here for a while (but didn't register until now:eek:). I was wondering which would be a more ideal recording environment between these two spaces:

I have a small den that has a window to the right and four inch thick glass panelling on the back wall. The left side
is comprised of a set of thick walled french doors so the only solid wall is the wall directly in front of where I have set up my mic and computer (designated as a "+"). It is a very small space, but has a wooden floor and is relatively insulated from the rest of the house.

(gave up on the figure drawing)

My other option would be a fairly empty room with carpet, but I am concerned it sounds a little dull in that room.

Which would be easier to use as a recording room (and then subject to all those fancy room treatments)?

off the top of my head

I'd say the larger room. I knew a drummer who recorded in a similar small room, and even close-mic'd it sounded pretty bad.

Can'tchya take the carpet out?

YD

What are you going to be recording? Generally, larger is better. What are the walls and ceiling in the larger room?

Large room and put stuff in it to kill reflections even more, if that's what you mean by "dull". This is a good thing.
