I would like to use my PC to record material playing on my Hi-Fi (Record Player) I already have the PC soundcard line out connected to "aux" on the Hi-Fi, and I can record PC 2 Hi-Fi with no problem. I have all the software required, I just need to know the physical connections I need to make. TIA.

Have you got a line-in jack on your sound card? Connect this to the line out on your Hi-Fi and you're in business. You may need an adapter cable since most consumer Hi-Fi set-ups use RCA plugs and most generic computer soundcards use 1/8" stereo miniplugs. Don't use the mic in jack on the soundcard as it will sound like garbage.

I'm trying to record some of my records to disk also. I have my stereo going to my computor and am using soundforge to record to wave on my harddrive. The problem is i am getting a hint of distortion or fuzz, and cant seem to get rid of it. The records sound fine on my stereo.Could anyone tell me why this is?

The first thing is to make sure that you are not over powering your sound card. If you are doing this, the audio is clipping (or peaking). to solve this, adjust the audio going in either from the Hi-FI unit or the sound card itself (all depends on your equipment.) If this is not your problem, make sure that you are not recording directly from a record player. Hook your record player to your preamp (make sure the player's grounds are connected (this is where the fuzz comes from), then hook your PC to an AUX out or Tape out as if the PC was a tape deck. Again it all depends on what kind of equipment you are using. I have done this and it works fine.
