Returned from the dead
Where do you keep your amp heads in relation to your home recording rig?

Do you keep it close to your desk or do you keep it far away from you?

I'm mainly only asking because I'm curious about those who do keep it close to your DAW PC/multitrack recorder and how they have it set up.
I can't seem to find a proper way to keep my amp head close to me to be able to adjust controls and whatnot

When I'm recording everything is right atthe other end of the room from my PC etc.

Yeah, walking back and forth for 30mins or so while I'm setting it all up can be a pain, but once it's done it's done.

It's a pita, but they are in the iso booth.
Open the door. Adjust. Shut the door. Evaluate.

Pita, but it's the best way.....

Not sure about other DAWs but with cubase you can get an iPhone app that allows you to control the transport. So once your set up you can hit record, rewind etc...

Long speaker and mic cables.

lou

That's what I'm doing now.

What I'm asking is WHERE You put your amp head in relation to your recording desk in which you sit at when you're recording.

For instance, do you keep your amp head ON your desk right in front of you? do you keep your amp head all the way across the room and just get up and go back and forth to get the sound right like legionserial does?

I'm curious as to how people do this.
Right now I keep my amp head along the same wall as my recording desk right next to it. It's not in arms reach though. I wondered if people kept theirs within arm reach or something else.

You keep your amp head in an iso cabinet?

Long speaker & mic cables too.

I live in a mobile home where my bedroom/recording room is on the end.I run the cables to my cab in the living room and keep my head unit in my bedroom. It's not in arms reach but close enough that i can listen to the tone in my monitors and tweak as necessary.

I know i loose some of the highs by running long cables but i don't crank the treble on my rig all the way anyway.

Three amps within four feet of the DAW and an office chair with casters.

Yeah- I have all of my amps in there, combos AND heads along with the cab. I've been trying to come up with something better.
Now you got me thinking....:D

Maybe I'll make a long speaker cable and stack all the heads just outside the booth.

Of course that means I have to find a home the the pile of crap, er, gear that's there now.

My base problem is that I'm outta room:o

My combo amp is in an iso booth, in the next room. So I can sit in front of the PC and record. I don't need to adjust the amp much, so ot's really just turn it onand go.

This has worked really well, I think you tend to record more often that way.

Cheers,
FM

My extensive collection of amp sits in the loungeroom gathering dust, next to the PRS Custom 22 also gathering dust... they're a good conversation piece at dinner parties...

Ocasionally, when I actually use it to record, I put it in the spare bedroom.

As it's a combo, alas the head has to stay with the speakery bit, unless there's some new inter dimensional arrangement I haven't yet figured out. The good folk at Behringer should get onto it..

So it's close door, record, listen, open door, adjust, close door... rinse and repeat.... for me...
