Any thoughts on recording guitar with 2 mics.

I have an SM58 and an EV ??. The EV is clearer than the 58.

Would it be worth the hastle recording 2 tracks at the same time then mixing the tracks to get the desired sound or getting a good mic (SM57) to mike the guitar cab ?

Cheers

I'm assuming you mean electric guitar complete with an amp and such...I often use two mics to record electric guitar amps...I try not to use an SM58 on an amp simply because it has such a huge proximity effect.57's are better for this use...Try one mic....record your track a couple of times making sure to play it the same each time.this will make for a bigger sound than simply using two mics which may not be best for the purpose.

for electric guitars you can use two mics and if i'm going to do this i'll use a dynamic up close and a condensor about three feet back for ambience. you just have to be careful regarding phase issues. I'm not particularly a fan of the sm-57 on guitars but lord knows it's made a boatload of famous guitars you've heard on records in the past. the good thing about the sm-57 is that for the price, every studio should have one and will use it at some point (ie snare, ec guitars, even vocals here and there). if i were you id concentrate on one mic and keep it simple.
just my 2 cents,
Blake
