I`ve been recording Guitar by Mic`ing my Amp and plugging the microphone directly into the soundcard. This has yielded average results. I`ve also read that this is a bad idea for getting a good sound.

I have a Tascam multitracker, and I was thinking that I could plug my Mic into the XLR input(s) of this, and then plug the output of the multitracker into the Line In on the soundcard, effectively using the Multitracker as a mixer. Would this work better?

Andy.

Yes, it would. Your mixer is better equipped to handle the output from a Shure 57 better than your soundcard. If you use the mixer and still get crappy sound, invest $150 in a pro sound card.

What you want to do is get a decent preamp for your mic and use the line in of your soundcard.
