I don't know much about computer recording so if this is a dumb question, don't get all in a fit. Now, my question is, if I bought a computer with everything I need, could I simply plug my mixer into the sound card and record through that?

Yes, you can use the two main outs of a mixer, or the inserts, or almost anything that has a signal. You need to amplify the instrument or voice with a preamp, then go into the soundcard. Don't use your guitar amplifier.
Let the people here know what you would like to do, and they will set you off on the right track. Tell us what equipment you have and how much you want to spend, and what you intend to do.
Good luck.

This will be my setup:

*Penitum II 350 mhz and probably 64 MB RAM
*Mackie 1642 VLZ mixer
*Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0

You'll notice I didn't mention either a Hard Disk drive or soundcard because I don't know much about either. If someone could explain to me if I need to buy a better sound card, or if that's sort of a luxury. As far as Hard Disk drives are concerned, I know you have to have one, but does a good enough one usually come with the computer, or am I gonna have to buy one seperately? I'm also not sure about which moniters are considered better than others, so a little info there would be helpful too. Anyway, I think I've said enough. Thanx for any responses.
