Recording from interface to a handheld digital recorder

Questions:

1) Is this possible?

2) Is this a fire hazard...lol ... (meaning would any device be damaged in the process)

3) How drastic of a sound quality drop would this be.

I know it's a stupid question, but I'm having a very difficult time getting Cubase LE5 to recognize my devices as well as play them as well. 6 hours of trying to figure it so I need to get tech support involved. Just looking to see if I could setup something to practice using the equiptment with in the meantime.

You're only going to be able to record 2 channels separately - looks like you are taking the stereo monitor output from the interface to the input of the recorder? make sure you use the line in inputs on the recorder.

The diagram I have has the cord to the recording coming from the LINE OUT 1/2 (unbalanced) jacks. Yes, these are the jacks that monitor the signal from the computer to and from.
According to the manual: "Connect these jacks to recorders, speakers with built in amplification and external effect devices..."
So I guess that leaves me slightly confused.

The rear jacks on the right are the Digital in (coaxial) jacks as you mentioned. If they are "line in," how will the signal be able to output onto the recorder's internal memory?
 
You misread - you are taking the LINE OUT from the interface to the LINE IN of the recorder.

Any thoughts on the quality? I have no idea how it will be affected. I already have a recorder, just not the correct cord to test it out.
 
the quality will be affected by the interface's preamps, the mics and the recorder's a-to-d converters (because you are not using the interface's a/d's).
