hi there
when recording from a mixer to your computer, is it possible to choose which channels from the mixer come out on whichever side of the stereo image?
eg. if i'm recording drums with 2 OHs and a kick mic and snare mic, is it possible to have the left OH come out on the left, the right OH come out on the right and the kick and snare mics come out in the middle?
would i just use some kind of panning knob on the mixer?
sorry if this is a stupid question, i'm extremely new to all of this.
also, should i get cgi (dot) ebay (dot) com (dot) au/PHONIC-PCM1202B-MIXING-CONSOLE-BOARD-MIXER_W0QQitemZ190177193272QQihZ009QQcategoryZ23785QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem or is it a peice of crap?
thanks.

You Got It

Yup, that's it. pan hard left for one channel, hard right for the other.

P.s. don't know anything about that board. I take it you live in australia? I also don't know the value of ausie cash, can't say if it looks worth it or not.

thanks so much!
now hopefully someone will tell me about the above mixer haha.

As long as your connection between the mixer and computer is stereo then yes, you can pan any mixer channel side-to-side. If it is only one channel into your computer, then you cannot.

You can even get the same results with a mono mixer by following these steps. Connect the line out from the mixer to the right input on the recorder, connect the monitor out to the left input. Right OH to chanel 1, set monitor volume to 0 and set output level with the volume (gain) control. Kick to chanel 2, snare to chanel 3, set the volumes of both monitor and main to center the sounds. Left OH to chanel 4, set main volume to 0 and set the output level of the monitor send. This method isn't quite as simple as adjusting the pan control on a stereo mixer but it does work and the end result is the same.
