Hi
My buddy and I are both musicians and we would like to collaborate on a project together. He is in the USA and I am in the UK, distance is not really the issue as we can send each other files, mix and edit and send em back. The problem is that he is a mac user on an ipad and I am a PC user on win XP. I have cubase and he has garage band and never the twain shall meet. So my question is what software can we use that is compatible in mac and PC and will import file types from both systems? does it exist?
Thanks
James.

It doesn't matter what computer brand or DAW app you each use.
Just export the files in the same format....WAV (PC) or AIFF(Mac). Most DAW apps should do several formats.

If you wish to share the actual project files, so that you can both work on full mixes, then you would want to use the same DAW and same VST's. Otherwise you can just export the audio files to each other and add tracks. With different DAW's, you will be best with one of you doing all of the mixing.

He's not really on a Mac.... if he's on an iPad he is on IOS which is different.

If he was on an OSX Mac, you could both use Reaper as the files interchange with no problems.

There IS a version of Cubase... Cubasis... for the iPad but I have no idea if the files will work with PC Cubase. You should look into it.

In the end, you're probably going to share stems.
