recording equipment

Alright, me and a buddy are in a band and want to record. For all you pro guys out there, what equipment (down to the mics) would you reccomend for us? mixers, mics...all that stuff. he plays guitar and sings and i sing. help a guy out? thanks a bunch!

Well Pat...since this is your first day here, I would suggest taking the rest of tonight and tomorrow and just read the board. There is WWWAAAYYY too much to list and everyone's opinion will be different anyway. Use the search function...its very helpful...

Hi, I'm Richie, the reality check guy. Recording equipment costs money, lots of it. Unless you are an experienced engineer, it usually sucks. How do you get experience? Record stuff. How do you record stuff? Get a lot of gear. How do you get gear? Have money. If you want to learn to record music, go for it. First, decide what you want to do with the recordings. Pedal as a demo? New artist grammy? For your mother? If the project is commercial, I advise you to go to a professional studio, it will cost less than building a studio.
At first, you will record with a 4 track cassette, a standalone digital recorder, or a computer. Which one you choose depends on your intentions and your budget. So how much money are you prepared to part with to get started?-Richie
