Mic'ing a good amp will always be better than trying to re-create it.

Mic a guitar amp, DI a bass. Don't waste your time trying to DI a guitar.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've recorded with a Digitech RP50 modeler and a Line 6 Spider II 15 amp, both direct, because it's easier and for me it's good enough. I've heard some very good tones done by recording an electric direct and clean and processing with a plug in like simulanalog.
