I am trying to record drums but I cannot get them to sound good. I use a Shure SM57 for the snare, and Samson dynamic mics for hi-hat and two overhead mics. I am recording with a Zoom MRS-1608 multitrack. I wanted to know how to get the drums to sound good with these mics.

You might not be able to. Try taking the mic off the hi-hat and putting it on the kick.
What doesn't ound good about it? Do the drums sound good in the first place?

The drums sound good in the first place, but when I record the drums, the hi-hat mic picks up the snare and the snare has a ringing noise.

Miking the hihats is usually not nessicary. The Overheads (especially 2) should pick up the hats fine. You should definatley mic the kick. What kind of mics are you using for overheads?

Which is it, the drums sound good or is there a ringing noise? Tune the snare drum so it doesn't ring so much and mic the kick.

Tune the snare. Also, try a moongel on the top head. Plus, what everyone else has said.
