Recording Distortion help

What's the proper way to recording distortion guitar(I am using a BOss metal zone pedal)
I normal plug my guitar directly into the mixer which connect to the computer when I record clean guitar. I don't like using my mic coz it sux...

Should I connect my guitar into the boss pedal and connect from the pedal to the mixer?
Would this be bad for the mixer?

What's the appropriate way of recording distortion without mic?

the line in is where you would plug whatever is going in, like a POD, or V-amp or whatever.

maybe you should buy a v-amp or something.

metal zones have a reputation for sounding crappy too.
