Hello!

This is my frst post and a recording newbie.

I have a MacBookPro 2013 but not Retina, so it has another jack beside the headphones one.
Could I connect an preamp like Audient ASP 008 ADAT/AES 96 via optical cable directly to the Mac, and record multiple tracks with it?

Thank for your help!

Dave

P.S:

Is preamp just a bridge between the mic/instruments and the audio interface, or u can plug it directly via toslink cable to MacBook Pro?

Do you already have the Audient?

If not, you'd be far better ahead to get a usb or firewire interface (Focusrite, Motu, etc) with that many channels.
If you get one with adat ports on it, you could then add the Audient later to expand it.
