I breed and exhibit German roller canaries. This is a cage bird bred for its unusual and beautiful song. I have little experience recording but have download off Napster and burned a few CDs. Using Sound Recorder, I did get everything set up ok, but the static is terrible and one can barely hear whatever I'm recording, including my voice. I bot a new microphone, an audio-technica ATR30 -- about $45 bucks -- but the best they had at Best Buys. I installed a Hercules Game Theater xP sound card and rack, and new Boston speakers. But the static remains. Eventually, the objective is to record the birds in their show cages, while keeping the sounds of hopping from perch to perch at a minimum. Pretty much a neophyte to recording so any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff Brooks

Record them to tape first

For some reason, I have recorded my birds(they accidently flew away last year) and maybe I can help. If you have any analog way of recording them first, try that. Microphones? I reccomend a PZM from radioshack(if they do'nt know what your talking about , tell them it's the only flat-square mic they carry(it might be called something different these days). Anyways, if you could get it recorded to cassette tape,mini-disc,or CD first, then you could call a friend or find someone to transfer that to your computer. I live in Oklahoma City and my Dad commutes to Ft. Worth every weekend, so If you needed some easy free help, please hollar. I'm intersted in these birds.........my email is AllanVest@prodigy.net
