The Way It Moves
How to do it? I have a Shure SM57, MXL 990, and an MXL 991. I can record up to two tracks simultaneously at once. I'm asking this and looking for mostly mic placement techniques and such.

I'd try the 57. You might have to boost some mids in the mix, I found this really helps most hand percussion (although soloed it probably sounds too middy that way). Mic the skin (the bottom provides more body and tonal information but you probably don't need much of that anyway).

jesus...bongos have to be the easiest shit in the world to mic

like the other guy said, throw a 57 on top of them, 6-12" back, right between the 2 drums
