i need a little help here. i have never recorded bluegrass. is it commonly done with just one mic? i have a multipattern tube condenser that includes both the figure 8 and omni. problem is, most of my mics, i just rented out for another project. so this is about all i have. the instruments include, guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and piano (i have a kurzweil keyboard that will go direct) i can possibly bum a ksm32 off my brother. any info would be great.

That is NOT a typical bluegrass band, but you can probably handle it. If they know how to work a mic, bluegrass bands can sound great with one mic (in omni). To this day, that is what Ralph Stanly does, and you don't get much better in that style of music. If they are not used to playing a mic, they will need to practice, a lot.

The best thing, though, is that if they can handle it, it will be the easiest session you ever have.
