Hi all,

did any of you ever tried to record a bass with a standard guitar POD. I'm going to try it tomorrow, you never know it sounds ok, because I haven,'t got many mic options and I am not a great fan of the bassist his amp.

Any suggestions on settings? I'm looking for a hevy sound (he uses a distortion pedal) the music is (stoner ) rock.

I'v recorded bass tracks with the Pod. I'm impressed with the Pod all round. Getting a phat bass sound can be challenging, but if you experiment with settings you can damn sure do it with the Pod. Other guitar stuff sounds good also. Of course it does depend on your other equipment too. Try using the Pod, then try mic'n the amp and see which one you like best. I'v also gotten good results by mic'n the amp, it's just whatever works...

I record bass through a red POD I. Works fine. Line 6 were kind enough to stick a bass amp model on it for us - the Tweed Blues - which attempts to emulate a '59 Fender Bassman bass amp. The lows show up when you use this model with a bass guitar.

I would go for any of the models that imitate the old Fender or Marshall non-master volume tube amps (Bassman, JTM, etc). Does it have any settings that resemble an old Orange? I've heard that they're quite good for stoner rock bass. For cabs I would try something with 10s (or 15s but I don't think the guitar POD has that).

I've found that the Tube Preap model works pretty well for a fairly standard DI bass sound, and the Tweed Blues (Bassman model) works well too, as kingy noted...

What's stoner rock, and what's a good stoner rock bass sound sound like?

Jam bands?

My guess is that he's referring to really down-tuned, sludgy groove-y stuff like Mastadon, Fu Manchu, Orange Goblin, Clutch, Kyuss, Isis, etc (stuff I don't really listen to except for some Isis). A really loud, tube-overdriven bass sound, which is why I recommended the no-master volume tube amp emulations.

ive used that setup and its works well.... bass sits well in the mix.

try it :)

I was recording bass tracks at home over the weekend using my PodXT. I got very good results using the Hiwatt sim.

Check it out man....

Check it out man....

http://www.customtone.com/

I just found out about this site...I have had a POD 2.0 for almost two years now and never new I could import pre-sets from other people....
I finally RTFM... :D
It is a very cool site...if you can hook up you POD right to interface with your PC either via MIDI (the way I do it) or through USB into MIDI....

You might find a decent Amp model for a bass there man...Good luck

Joe
