recording Bass guitar

I am in the midst of getting a bass pOD. I aready have the XT fotr guitar, and I love it. I hop the bass POD will give me better clarity and tone, cause even thought a lot of my basslines are really soupy and dubbed out, I am now yearning for more bass without more saturation. Iwanna be able to crank a trck to 11 on the old steroe in the living room without the bass totally smothering the song. I want a lot of abss, but more of a controlled bass....know how to do this on a 488 mkIII. The eqs on that thing sometimes drive me nuts when recording, casue I always think that maybe I am recording "too much of the midrange" ETC. PLEASE HELP/
 
If you want more defined controlled bass record on analog. Or get a really nice preamp.

I've been A/Bing my old digitallly recorded bass to my new analog bass stuff and the difference is night and day! In analog I can turn the bass up so it dominates the mix and it doesn't get muddy. In fact it has these bell type tones that sound so incredibly musical compared to my digital recordings.
It really is amazing, no muddieness to the sound at all anymore.
 
I've been getting a pretty killer bass tone by micing the cab with a good kick drum mic. Right now I'm using a Senn E602. Direct sounds are great by themselves but they usually get lost in the mix. If you have a good bass cab then get a good mic instead of the Pod. They are about the same price.
 
Great points Tex. I used to love jamming on my Pod but I had that problem a lot, it just got swamped by the miced sounds in my mixes.

Heck, a good mic like a Sen e604 is only $50 or so on ebay.

but I al;ready record on analog, and as far as the mics go, I dont even have a an amp to mic really, I am using the pOD cause I dont even have an amp, and I figured that it would sound way better than any amp and mic I can get for that money. I know people who have used it and they said its fukin awesome. Tahnks for the thoughts anyhow.
 
I didn't mean porta analog but whatever works.

I bet you could get a great amp/mic combo for the price of a bass Pod. I would rather record bass with a countryman DI than a Pod, but that's just me.

If you're set on it go for it.
