recording audio track in Digi 001

I go to file new track. Select anolog input 3 (thats where I'm pluging in). but get no signal .....sometimes. I have done the same thing and got a signal but cannot get it to work consistantly whats going on???

analog 3 is line level. Are you using a preamp?
